The ESDA Assembly Internship programme
Twice a year, the Assembly of European Security and Defence Assembly/Assembly of WEU - whose seat is in Paris - offers 8 graduates the opportunity of a 6-month internship programme. The ‘stagiaires´ are attached to one of the following Committees / Departments:
  • Political Committee
  • Defence Committee
  • Technological & Aerospace Committee
  • Parliamentary and Public Relations Committee
  • Press Service
  • Research Office
  • Documentation Service
Interns primarily assist with research for and the drafting of the Assembly’s reports and work on a wide range of subjects usually in relation to European Security and Defence issues. In addition, interns have the chance to attend Committee meetings as well as the Assembly’s Plenary Sessions held twice a year in June and in December.

The internship offers valuable experience and understanding of the daily work of an International Organisation and provides an in-depth look into European affairs and government policies.

Priority is given to candidates from the following 10 WEU Full Member States:

Requirements
  • Level of studies: Doctorate or Master’s by research in Political Sciences, Law or other discipline with a bearing on security and defence policy or registered course of study (as evidenced by valid student card) leading to a taught Master’s or equivalent in a similar discipline.
  • Experience in a military, parliamentary, political or legal field an advantage not essential; proven personal interest in the area of security and defence policy.
  • Languages: excellent knowledge of at least one of the Assembly’s working languages (English, French) essential; good command of the other desirable. Knowledge of other languages an advantage.
  • Current passport, valid for length of stay.
  • Accommodation in the Paris area for length of stay.
Conditions of internship
  • Length: 6 months - January-June or July-December (possibility of commencing September)
  • Hours: full time (Monday-Friday, 09.00 - 18.00)
  • There is no remuneration attached to the internship (a monthly contribution towards living costs of 200 euros will be paid at the end of the intern’s stay).
  • Some travel may be required.
